PROJECT TEAM MEETING HELD WITH MOHT, MYANMAR FOR THE ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF THE POOR AND WOMEN IN THE EAST-WEST ECONOMIC CORRIDOR-TPMS
The ADB-funded project, Economic Empowerment of the Poor and Women in the East-West Economic Corridor – Technical and Project Management Support Package (TPMS, 2017-2020) is underway. In January 2019, the Project Team met with Director Than Win of Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (MOHT) to level off on the progress of the project. Representing the Project Team were International Team Leader Paul Ramirez Tapia and Deputy Team Leader Daw Htay Htay Aung. OIDCI President and COO Herman Ongkiko and MMIC General Manager Daw Tin Moe Moe Khine were also present in the meeting. OIDCI partnered with Myanmar International Consultants Company, Limited (MMIC) for the implementation of the TPMS. Other members of the Project Team, such as the national civil engineer, national handicrafts and training specialist, and national food processing specialist also attended the meeting.
The project supports micro and small enterprise development in four townships in Mon State in Myanmar; the four towns lie on the Greater Mekong Subregion East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC). The TPMS includes the conduct of a variety of training and capacity building sessions and provision of technical assistance on business development, micro-credit, marketing, promotion, and brand development.
Weaving is among the product categories identified for development under the project. Several training sessions have been conducted under the project for this product category, including those on natural dyeing techniques and weaving design. New designs and products have been developed. Several training sessions on business planning, leadership, and networking have also been conducted and have been led by local experts under the project.
