The project aims to upgrade the Akhaura-Laksam railway track into a double track dual-gauge line with modern signaling equipment. The Akhaura-Laksam track is a section of the Dhaka-Chittagong railway corridor, which connects to the Trans-Asia Railway network. The railway corridor is seen to boost Bangladesh tourism and trade, specifically in its southernmost areas. OIDCI fielded a Social/Resettlement/Gender specialist who is in charge of monitoring the implementation of the project’s resettlement plan, including the implementation of livelihood restoration activities.
