SRIDP seeks to establish and rehabilitate strategic rural infrastructure in 15 northern mountain provinces of Vietnam. The target provinces have relatively high poverty incidence and low agricultural productivity due to poor access to infrastructure, inefficient irrigation systems, inadequate potable water supply and antiquated market facilities. Majority of the population are ethnic minorities with low educational attainment, many of which belong to women-headed households that face limited employment and livelihood opportunities. The project aims to spur socio-economic development in the target provinces.

The OIDCI Team provides technical advice and support to the SIRDP national consultants in the preparation of Resettlement Plan /Resettlement and Ehtnic Minority Development Plans (REMDP), economic analysis, initial environmental examinations (IEE), and bid/procurement documents. The assistance also involves the preparation of relevant guides/manuals; training; field validation; and review and quality control of outputs.

Priority infrastructure under the SRIDP includes the construction of rural roads, small- to medium-scale irrigation or drainage systems, and district and commune markets.
