IP ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY: CEREMONIAL MoA SIGNING FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE ETHNOSTUDY IN DULANGAN-MANOBO TRIBAL COMMUNITIES HELD
Representatives of the Dulangan‐Manobo tribe from two barangays in Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Regional Office of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) providing the OIDCI-AIA Research Team consent to conduct ethnographic studies in their communities. The ceremonial signing was held in early August 2014 in the presence of the NCIP Provincial FPIC Panel and the OIDCI-AIA Team. As requested by the tribe members, the MoA was translated to their local dialect. Prior to the ceremonial signing, the OIDCI-AIA Research Team with the NCIP Provincial FPIC Panel facilitated the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) process in the two barangays. By the end of the field research, the OIDCI-AIA Team will present the results to the IP communities for final validation.
The Ateneo de Davao Institute of Anthropology (AIA) is OIDCI’s partner for the conduct of the field ethnographic studies, which will provide in-depth analysis of challenges faced by the IPs in terms of access to land.
