DRB : FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSIONS FOR FIVE INDIGENOUS TRIBES OF DAVAO CITY HELD

 EVENT DRB Discussion2014 1EVENT DRB Discussion2014 2EVENT DRB Discussion2014 3

In support of the formulation of the Davao River Basin Management and Development Plan, the Project Team held three focus group discussions (FGDs) with the five indigenous tribes: Ata tribe ( April 15); Bagobo Tagabawa tribe (April 21), and Bagobo Clata, Matigsalug, and Obu Manuvu tribes (April 23). The tribes were represented in the FGDs by their respective datus; NCIP focal persons were present in all the discussions.

The ancestral domain titles of these tribes cover more than 60% of the Davao River Basin, which effectively make them the in situ managers of these lands. They are therefore key stakeholders and key actors in the management of the river basin. The FGDs were designed to solicit their views on certain issues and plans regarding the management of the Davao River Basin and to validate the tribes’ water sources, sacred sites, and resource use and management practices.

Another session is scheduled to be conducted in Bukidnon in May 2014 for tribal members of Matigsalug and Manabo who are located in the Bukidnon portion of the Davao River Basin.
