EXTREME POOR IN THE PHILIPPINES SURVEYED IN WORLD BANK STUDY
The World Bank-funded “Multi-Method Survey of Extreme Poor in the Philippines” focuses on indigenous peoples groups, farming and fishing communities, and the urban poor. The survey was conducted in 20 communities in four provinces in Luzon and seven provinces in Visayas and Mindanao in August 2015. Social mapping, wealth ranking, households interviews, and focus group discussions were among the survey methods used. The survey will provide a comparison of living conditions of groups of ultra poor residing in different areas in the country and a mapping of services and facilities provided by government, the local communities, and other actors. The study will contribute to the development of new poverty-related policies and programs and the enhancement of existing programs targeting the ultra poor sections of society.
