OIDCI was contracted by the OCCL to conduct a Community Profile Survey for the JICA-aided project on the rehabilitation and recovery from Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan). The purpose of the rapid survey was to gather social characteristics of the target areas for the determination of appropriate locations for Pilot Project implementation. The pilot projects will address the urgent needs of the disaster-affected areas.

The conditions in heath and education services, communication and transportation, housing, agriculture, and markets were covered by the survey. Access to other social services and disaster preparedness were included. The situation on resettlement and evacuation were also part of the survey as well as community and social activities for mutual support.

The survey was conducted in nine municipalities in Samar (Lawaan, Balangiga, Giporlos, Quinapondan, Salcedo, Mercedes, Guiuan, Basey, and Marabut) and in eight municipalities and one city in Leyte (Abuyog, Javier, MacArthur, Mayorga, Tolosa, Tanauan, Dulag, Palo, and Tacloban city) that are situated along the coasts of the Pacific Ocean.
